Christmas in July Placemat Tutorial

Good morning!

The sun is shining, today's forecast is 85 degrees, and I'm in a Christmas mood! I'm part of Benartex's Christmas in July blog hop today, and I'm sharing a placemat tutorial I made using Cherry Guidry's Mulberry Lane collection.

These fabrics are adorable! I've always appreciated the addition of aqua into the more traditional red and green colorway because it creates such a fresh look. Here's a look at my completed placemat:

In these prints, I especially love all the different vehicles. I had fun quilting this as well--smaller projects are so much easier to maneuver! I followed the circles on the print below, filling in the white space with pebbles.

Isn't this a fun stripe?

My original plan was to make a tree using flying geese units. But it was just too straight and not quite right for the style of these fabrics. Paper piecing allowed me to create a wonky tree instead, and I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Head over to Benartex's blog to check out my tutorial.
Leave a comment below telling me your favorite holiday decoration for a chance to win a fat quarter bundle of Mulberry Lane fabrics. This giveaway is open through Sunday, July 30th at 11:59 pm EDT.

Thanks for stopping by!

I treasure my nutcracker collection -- all German. (Best place to get them is at T.J. Maxx or Marshall's around November 1 when they put out the Christmas merchandise. I keep saying I don't need any more . . .)

My favorite is an old one from when I was growing up. It had a "fan" inside that would spin from the heat of the Christmas tree light bulbs. Luckily, the lights don't get hot anymore, so I hang them from the fireplace mantle and that heat makes them spin now!

  49. Your quilting on your placemat just makes it!! I have a favorite Christmas decoration. I bought a couple of ceramic angels from a lady that was trying to raise money for Christmas, 44 years ago. One was a pink one, for my daughter. I expecting my second child, but didn't know the sex. However, the little blue one just called to me. When my son was born, I was delighted that I had one for each, and have used them every year since.

My daughters & I also made some dough ornaments years ago--one was decorated to look like my husband. We have him in his workout clothes with his beard & long hair! 60. My favorite holiday decoration has to be a small spring stuffed with cotton and eyes glued to it. It was given to me when I was only 18 by my baby brother...he made it! I don't put it out, I keep it wrapped with the ornaments, when the ornaments go on the tree, I unwrap the spring and smile. I shared it with him last Christmas.... ALMOST 30 years Later... He was so surprised/ shocked that I've kept it that long!
